The English as a second language (ESL) program at King-Chavez Athletics Academy was designed for the need that our new students face while experiencing the transition from their native language to English. The program incorporates educational aspects that help students adapt to their new school environment. This in turn, helps them with their everyday school assignments. Students are taught to practice these skills learned in order to further understand, read, write and speak in their new language. The ESL lessons are scheduled daily for forty minutes where the students are introduced to many ESL teaching techniques such as working with visuals, guided oral practice, team tasks, strip paragraphs, chants, listen and sketch, story maps and other techniques that allow students to have a faster and efficient understanding of the English language.
